The Hack:
Ask
Let’s be honest. Sometimes we just don’t feel God’s love. Sometimes we just don’t want to worship or pray. Sometimes sitting in the Word feels boring or bland. These are normal, human reactions when our faith feels blah. But girl, you don’t have to settle for blah when the Lord freely offers a vibrant, full, exciting, joyful relationship with Him. Will life always be peaches and cream? Nope. But do we have access to God’s more and goodness no matter what our feelings try to tell us? Absolutely!
Our next hack is another one of those simple yet impactful actions to take toward deep roots of faith no matter what twists and turns life brings us. I learned this prayer so long ago while also learning that this prayer is one the Lord is always quick to answer.
Give me a heart for You alone.
The Scripture:
Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to his teaching. But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.” But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, 42 but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.” {Luke 10:38-42}
Pray it every day, multiple times a day. Pray it even when you just aren’t feelin’ it. Pray it when you sit with His Word and desire deep truth but don’t know where to start. Pray it out of faith that He will meet you in your blah. And, please please please pray it after some time of confession. We all need to turn from those things that clog up vision of how big God is…those actions or mindsets that blur that vision and make us forget how we are loved.
The Posture:
~Lord, show me the things or even people that I place above You in priority and affection…
~Forgive me for…
~Soften my heart toward who You are…
~Give me a heart for You alone…
