Fear, panic, anxiety. It can come out of nowhere and it can take your breath away. The news report of another COVID variant, the tweet of another social protest or riot in your city, the text or phone call that rocks your world.
Keeping your sanity during times of uncertainty doesn’t mean sticking your head in the sand -- but it also doesn’t mean allowing yourself to become pre-occupied with the daily news or the voices in your head that scream “tilt!” There is a balance of being fully cognizant of what’s going on around you while not letting it sway you from God’s peace and assurance.
Psalm 112 describes the life of a believer when darkness threatens to overtake our lives. “They do not fear bad news; they confidently trust the Lord to care for them.”
No matter what challenge you are facing or the next troubling news report of the pandemic -- there is one thing you can count on. God’s care for you. As believers, our faith in his care can make all the difference in how we walk through unfortunate or uncertain times.
“They are confident and fearless and can face their foes triumphantly. They give generously to those in need. Their good deeds will never be forgotten.” (Psalm 112: 8-9)
The way you walk through this challenge will have a long-lasting effect on the lives of those around you. Have you allowed yourself to go off the rails in worry and doubt when things look grim? Have you isolated yourself in fear? Or are you finding ways to stir your faith and reassure others with the truth of God’s word, showing compassion and bolstering their hope in the living God?
We have a vantage point that others may not have. Look out from the safety of God’s high tower -- and be the light that comes rushing in for others.
“When darkness overtakes the godly, light will come bursting in.” (Psalm 112:4)
A prayer: God, I declare my trust in you. I will not fear bad news because I know you are watching over me. Help me to be a light to those around me. Help me to regain my balance and walk confidently in you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
