Scripture
“Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” (James 1:2-5)

Devotional
There is no question that the COVID-19 crisis has put the world on its heels. There is not a single person I know that has not been affected by this in some way. The question posed to us now, is how do we respond, especially since none of us have experienced anything like this before. There is no handbook on expertly navigating a worldwide pandemic as a follower of Jesus. Other than a handful of scientists and doomsday preppers, none of us were ready. But even in the midst of these uncertain times, we can find a fountain of wisdom in the presence of God.
We often think of the presence of God as a source of love, comfort, and encouragement. But not only is he a loving Father, he is a wise and intelligent one. He is not only generous with his grace and mercy, but with his wisdom and direction, as well. But I wonder how often we miss out on his incredible guidance simply because we forget to ask for it.
For my birthday last year, I received the gift of a Masterclass subscription, where you can watch expert chefs, writers, musicians, and others, share their wisdom on how to grow in their particular area of expertise. Honestly, I haven’t learned a thing... and that’s not because their teaching isn’t incredible, but because I haven’t watched any of the videos. Could it be that we are missing out on the brilliant ideas, advice, and direction that God is offering us, simply because we haven’t taken the time to listen? Could it be that God longs to pull us out of the fear and anxiety that surrounds us and instead walk us through this season with him? Proverbs 3:5-6 says:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
God desires to speak to you directly about your life. He longs to guide you in and out of every circumstance by speaking to your heart. And he longs to give you the wisdom you need from the words of Scripture. God desires to lead you through this time, and he has provided all you will ever need to face these difficulties. All that’s left is for you to trust him, keep your heart open to him, and follow him obediently in response to his faithfulness and love.
Where do you need God’s wisdom today? Do you need wisdom in how to guide your family through this time? Do you need wisdom in how to handle your finances in the midst of a job loss? Do you need wisdom in how to deal with the spiritual and emotional toll you’re feeling right now? Whatever it is, spend time today asking God for his wisdom, and trust that he will generously give it.
Guided Prayer
“For who is God except the Lord? Who but our God is a solid rock? God is my strong fortress, and he makes my way perfect.” (2 Samuel 22:32-33, NLT)
“For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.” (Proverbs 2:6)
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” (Psalm 23)

God desires to share his wisdom with you on a daily basis. Continue to set aside time with him to learn his ways and to grow in your relationship. Make space for him to speak to you, teach you, and love you. By his grace and strength, you can thrive even in the midst of the most difficult seasons.
