Your Resurrection Resolution: Let It Be
The Sheep Were Scattered

They ran.

When Jesus was arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane, His followers fled, just as Zechariah prophesied — "Strike the shepherd and the sheep will be scattered."

They went into hiding. If the authorities could kill their Master and Teacher, how much easier would it be to round up His disciples? That's why Peter denied knowing Him, just as Jesus said he would.

Following Jesus came at a cost then, just as it does now. And the disciples were unable to pay the price, just as none of us would have been able in their shoes. So, like Adam and Eve did in the Garden of Eden, they hid.

But when they heard the voice of the Lord this time, in the cool of the evening, the disciples came out of hiding — not to punishment, but to the One Who had taken their punishment on Himself. They came not to confess their misdeeds, but to confess, as Thomas did, "My Lord and my God!" They emerged from seclusion to inherit blessing, not a curse.

This is why we need no longer run from the Lord, but to Him.

"Hiding in Fear" by Jim Cymbala

PRAY

Father, before Your Son came out of the tomb, we had no reason for boldness. We had no power. But when You triumphed over death, there was nothing else that could keep us down. We now overcome by the blood of the Lamb, the word of our testimony and by not loving our own lives so much as to shrink from death. If we live, it's for Christ. If we die, it's for gain. Because of You, we can't lose. Praised be Your Name through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

REFLECT

“Awake, O sword, against My Shepherd,
Against the Man who is My Companion,”
Says the Lord of hosts.
“Strike the Shepherd,
And the sheep will be scattered;
Then I will turn My hand against the little ones.

— Zechariah 13:7

RESPOND

Jesus' death was not the end of the story. Sunday morning dawned and the world would never be the same again, as we will witness in our next installment.
