It’s hard not to get caught up in the consumerism and excess of our age. New technology and new styles bombard us and beg us to buy in to the newest upgrade or the newest fad. But God isn’t concerned with what is on the outside, and He certainly doesn’t want us to be consumed by stuff. Ultimately, if we are living the kind of life that pleases God, we will learn that what we have isn’t as important to God as what we do with what we have, as this post explains.

1 Samuel 16:7
Father, I confess that I can be selfish with money. I get caught up in consumerism and can’t wait to upgrade my life. Convict my heart so that what I do with what I have is more important to You than the things I buy.
Do I focus only on what I have and continually strive to get more, or am I thinking about how God wants me to use my financial resources?
Start taking steps to scale back and stop spending your energy and resources on things that don’t really matter.
If you really want peace and a sense of wholesomeness, don’t let stuff be the source of your joy, and don’t let materialism ruin your financial well-being. So much of our energy and resources are spent on things that really aren’t significant or honoring to God. Instead of living this way, ask God to give you direction on what you need, and put your passion and desire toward pleasing Him. Doing this will help you learn to be content with what you have, as the next post explains.
