Budgeting is a system you can use to learn where your money needs to go and where it actually goes. You don’t have to call it a budget, though; you may prefer to call it your spending plan. No matter what you call it, budgeting helps you see where you are currently spending your money and the changes you need to make to align what you want with what God wants for you. Setting up a budget or spending plan for yourself or your family is something that will help you become a better steward of what God has given you. In this post, Ron Blue outlines the process of budgeting and shares some key questions to consider when you are setting up your plan.
RB - How do I set a budget or a spending plan
Deuteronomy 8:18
Father, I want to set up a spending plan, so I ask for Your guidance and direction. Send Your peace to me (and those involved) about what I have, what I need, and what I want to accomplish with the money You have given me.
How does my spending need to change to accomplish what the Lord wants for me?
It’s time to start detailing your spending plan. Prayerfully consider how you need to change your spending to align with what God wants for you. Put your plan down on paper.
Once you begin following a budget, you'll be able to see how you are spending your money. Over time, you’ll be able to cut back on some things, adjust what you spend, and be able to save. Your budget should also take into account tithing and giving. Giving is an amount over your tithe that you give when God asks. For some people, this can be a hard thing to implement, but the next post will give you some great guidelines for learning how to give.
