The nine-day study that you have just completed has been excerpted from a new book entitled:

Jesus in His Own Words: A Layman’s Perspective, by John Matthew *

*Clearly, John Matthew is a pseudonym, but it is certainly an appropriate one; almost all of the recorded words of Jesus are found in either (or both) of these important Gospels of the New Testament. The identity of the author of this manuscript is unimportant. His objective in creating this manuscript is to help fulfill the Great Commission, and all proceeds from this publication will be used to further its distribution.

Interestingly, as the author began compiling this manuscript (around November 1, 2019), his 18-year-old grandson, Will, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Initial treatments failed and several months later he was diagnosed with plasmablastic lymphoma; the combination of these two diseases in youth is extremely rare and the survival rate bleak. He had to undergo two Car-T treatments, a bone marrow transplant and has spent over 250 days in the hospital, often in extreme pain. He has fought off viral pneumonia, severe strength and weight loss and the side effects of the transplant (Graft vs. Host disease).  

In June 2021, as it was beginning to appear Will was making a remarkable recovery, the author’s wife, Maria, was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer and immediately began treatment. This included seven rounds of chemo and an 8-hour surgery; for the following 8 months she (with her husband) was virtually sequestered at home, with a compromised immune system and a body battered by this horrible disease. Each of these two, both Jesus followers, had the great support of prayer warriors from around the world and today each is in remission.

We know that this is a miracle of God and to Him we give all the praise for their current conditions. Will is now in college, has gained back most of the 40 pounds of muscle he had lost; Maria is slowly regaining her strength, has regained half her weight loss and in March began seeing friends again. Praise God for these miracles. We continue to pray that they will remain in remission.

Jesus in His Own Words, A Layman’s Perspective is a relatively short book (123 pages) but it contains 201 key statements made by Jesus; as you could ascertain by the passages presented in this study, the interpretations of these spoken words are in concise and easy to understand language. Many find this a very accessible manual, organized in a constructive manner. In completing this study, you have read less than 20% of the published manuscript.
