It’s How You Grow

Sometimes we can sit down to read the Bible and become so distracted. We can’t stop thinking about our To-Do List or the argument we had with a family member. You might not be able to pay attention to what you’re reading because you can’t focus your mind. If you find it difficult to concentrate when you are reading your Bible, this next suggestion will help. Grab a pen and write notes as you read. Writing helps you remember what God is teaching you, and it gives you a record of your journey. Writing while you read will help you focus and better retain what you learn so you can grow in your faith, as this post explains.

Write as You Read

00:00

Read

Deuteronomy 31:19

Pray

Jesus, when I have a hard time focusing on Your Word, help me remember to write it out so I can pay attention, understand, and apply what You are teaching me.

Reflect

Do I come to my study time with my mind already distracted?

Respond

Buy a journal or notebook to keep with your Bible so you can write down what you are learning when you read.

The Wrap Up

Writing what you learn is a good idea no matter which study method you use. By writing out your thoughts, or describing what you learn or how God is speaking to you, you’ll have a record of your faith journey. It will give you something to look back on to see how far you’ve come. It can also encourage you when you see God’s faithfulness in your life. Another way you can be encouraged in your Bible study is by studying and discussing the Bible with others. The next post explains why studying the Bible with a group is another important way to grow in your faith.
