Read: Luke 2
I’ve wanted to shout. I’ve wanted to preach.
I’ve wanted to write. I’ve wanted to speak.
I’ve wanted to run. I’ve wanted to sing.
One moment can bring beauty, another ashes. We can hold good news and hard news, all in the same breath. Joy and sadness mercifully co-exist. Answers come and more questions always follow.
And He whispers, “There is a time for everything.” Ecclesiastes 3:1
In Luke chapter two, Mary has just given birth to the Son of God. Some questions had been answered, but there were still so many more. She held Beauty itself. Wonder overcame her whole being, while pain simultaneously set in as she was told that a sword would pierce her own soul. All because of this Glory-child.
And Mary, well she leans in ~ in quiet surrender. She is trusting, preparing, keeping, and pondering the mystery swaddled in promise. She “treasured up all these things ... in her heart.” Luke 2:19
Perhaps she too had heard the Whisper from another wise family-king, “There is a time for everything.” And right then and there, despite her thousand questions and fears, Mary chose to sing and declare what she knew to be true about her God and her place in His-story.
“My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked on the humblest estate of his servant. For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed; for he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name.” Luke 1:46-49
Reflect:
What are you waiting for?
How can you turn this time into a treasure?
