It is a good thing to revise your mindset and embrace the generous life of a believer who completely trusts in God and His ability to care for His children. It is an even better thing to teach your children to do the same; it’s a generational “pay it forward.” When you leave your children and grandchildren with a heritage of generosity, you are teaching them how to have a lasting impact on our world, on their lives, and in the lives of others. Teaching good stewardship is important. Teaching generosity is paramount. In this post you’ll learn why a generous heritage is more important to the future than a generous inheritance.

Pray
God, Your Word says we must raise our children up the way they should go so they will always come back to You and what is right. Help me not only live a generous life, but to teach future generations how to do that as well.
Reflect
What opportunities do I take to teach generosity to the next generations?
Respond
Seek out opportunities to show generosity to your children, or other children God has placed in your life and invite the next generation to participate in generosity with you.
Learning to be generous means you first need to confront any lies you believe about your finances and your time. Letting go of control and trusting God to provide opens you up for a life of generosity. Living generously, even to the point of being willing to give away your best “land” if God asks you to, is living the kind of life that God will reward. When you are generous towards others, God is generous towards you. You will find blessings that are physical, emotional, or eternal, when you obediently partner with God in generosity. As you embrace a life of generosity, pouring out God’s love to others, you also have the opportunity to create a heritage of generous living as you teach the next generations to follow your example. God’s economy is so different than the world’s economy. But when you trust Him to take care of you, and give generously in a response to His example, you’ll find you will not lack anything you need. How is God asking you to be more generous? What will you do about it?
