You Can Find Freedom in Jesus
It Takes More Than Willpower

When fighting to overcome an addiction, remember that it takes more than just willpower. The more you try to fight off an addiction, the more it wants to hold on. That’s why you can’t get through it on your own; you need community.

This can be a game changer for you. Yes, it’s hard to admit to someone else that you have an addiction, but telling someone about it will help you come out of your denial about it.

And this is the beginning of freedom. This post will help you discover how to get a community around you for help.

"How to Overcome an Addiction" by Chip Ingram

Read
James 5:16

Pray
God, help me have the courage to first admit to myself and then tell others about my addiction so I can begin my journey to healing and freedom.

Reflect
Do I have a community? If not, who in my life can be my community?

Respond
Prayerfully seek out the people in your life who can be your community, and then confess your addiction and ask for their help.

Building a community of people who will lift you up and hold you accountable for your addiction is paramount to breaking free from the addiction. You can’t do it on your own. Fill your community with people who have strong faith, and also with people who have overcome addiction. This way you will have good, godly direction for the next steps you need to take. The next post talks more about the next steps you need to take to be free from the chains of your addiction.
