The Bible tells us that we should not just be hearers of God's word but doers. In fact, the Word is even stronger about that because it tells us that if all we do is hear the Word, we deceive ourselves. We feel good that we've heard the Word, so we think we're all right.
This is where Pastor Bobbie Houston from our friends down in Australia chimes in. Now that we've become aware of injustice in the world, she says, we cannot deceive ourselves into thinking that awareness is enough. All awareness does is make us accountable. You know something's amiss, what are you going to do about it?

PRAY
Lord, You've told us that one of our greatest weapons in spiritual warfare is prayer. Help us to know how to wield this weapon in a way that takes us beyond merely being aware of the injustices around us to being effective against them.
REFLECT
"Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like." (James 1:22-24)
RESPOND
Today's post has been about going beyond merely being aware, but in our next post Angus Buchan emphasizes our personal responsibility in our walks with the Lord.
