"But you have been anointed by [you hold a sacred appointment from, you have been given an unction from] the Holy One, and you all know [the Truth] or you know all things." (1 John 2:20, AMP)
It almost seems like we have an unfair advantage! As believers, the Lord has given us a huge advantage in life: we have an unction from the Holy One. God has given us an anointing—on the inside of us—and this enables us to listen to the Lord and know things. In fact, this unction or anointing gives us the ability to know all things—all the things that we need to know.
The Holy Spirit is the One who lives inside of us and it's His unction and anointing that teaches us all the "inside scoop" we need for living a supernatural life.
Look at First John 2:27: "But as for you, the anointing (the sacred appointment, the unction) which you received from Him abides [permanently] in you; [so] then you have no need that anyone should instruct you. But just as His anointing teaches you concerning everything and is true and is no falsehood, so you must abide in (live in, never depart from) Him [being rooted in Him, knit to Him], just as [His anointing] has taught you [to do]." (AMP)
The anointing, or unction, teaches us concerning everything. What does that mean? Simply this—what do you need to know? Whom to marry? What job to take? Where to live? What route to take? How to fix a problem? How to raise your kids? What to do about your health? When to say something? How to do something? You have an anointing from the Holy One and He will teach you all the things you need to know!
That means we need to listen to that unction and follow it. If we sense the Holy Spirit's still small voice saying, "Take a different route to work today…" we should follow it. If we sense the unction leading us to pray for someone, we should do it. If we feel led to do something, not do something, say something, not say something—we should cooperate with that unction. The Holy Spirit—by the power of His anointing and unction inside of us—leads, guides, answers, directs and instructs us and our job is to simply function with the unction!
It's no wonder the Holy Spirit living in us is called the Greater One: our Comforter, Counselor, Strengthener, Advocate, Intercessor, Standby and Helper! (1 John 4:4; John 14:21)
It's no wonder Jesus told us it's better for us that He went to heaven so He could send the Holy Spirit.
"But when He, the Spirit of Truth (the Truth-giving Spirit) comes, He will guide you into all the Truth (the whole, full Truth). For He will not speak His own message [on His own authority]; but He will tell whatever He hears [from the Father; He will give the message that has been given to Him], and He will announce and declare to you the things that are to come [that will happen in the future]. He will honor and glorify Me, because He will take of (receive, draw upon) what is Mine and will reveal (declare, disclose, transmit) it to you. Everything that the Father has is Mine. That is what I meant when I said that He [the Spirit] will take the things that are Mine and will reveal (declare, disclose, transmit) it to you." (John 16:13-15, AMP)
Let's be sensitive to the Holy Spirit in the days to come. No doubt He will guide us, lead us, show us, protect us and give us what seems like an "unfair advantage" in this world!
Say It: “Father, I will function with the unction. Help me to listen to the still small voice of Your Spirit. I thank You that I have an anointing and an unction from the Holy Spirit and I know all the things I need to know, when I need to know them. In Jesus' Name. Amen."
