I Have Hope

Read: Psalm 71

You are forgiven, free, gifted, valuable and blessed; you have hope and you have a purpose!

As my husband and I reached Psalm 71 during our devotion time, I was astounded to see so much of my life revealed in this glorious Psalm: “…you brought me forth from my mother’s womb. I will ever praise you.” My father was told that I would be stillborn! Jesus saved me!

“You have been my hope, O Sovereign Lord, my confidence since my youth.” I asked Jesus to be my Lord when I was 6, and He saved me a second time.

“Be not far from me, O God; come quickly, O my God, to help me.” For years I struggled with depression, even a hospitalization, not knowing I was under spiritual attack, but knowing God.  He heard me, even when I felt far away and the darkness overwhelmed me.

Then God saved me a third time. He rescued me from a potentially fatal wreck, which left me with a traumatic brain injury. When pain and suffering envelop me, I know He hears my pleas, and He speaks. I only hope I live long enough to share what He has revealed of Himself! “…do not forsake me, O God, till I declare your power to the next generation…Though you have made me see troubles, many and bitter, you will restore my life…and comfort me once again.”

Our God chose to let his Son suffer so we could be rescued and stand before Him redeemed and holy. Jesus saved me! How could I not have hope? Through each trial and pain, I have learned who I can lean on and who my strength comes from. I cannot live this life without the promise of hope, and my hope in a God who loved me enough to send His Son to die in agony and rise triumphant to save my soul. Psalm 71 is not just my story. If you’ve ever received Jesus as your Lord and Savior, this is your story as well.

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In His great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish…” (1 Peter 1:3-4).
