How Many Times

Read: Deuteronomy 31:1-32:27

Every time I study Israel’s exodus from Egypt, I wonder aloud, “Why can we see other people’s sin while we are so blind to our own?”

Over and over in the Bible we see evidence of God’s incredible goodness to His people, yet they turn away time and time again. And every time, disaster comes down on them. Can’t they see if they would just do what God tells them they would be OK? How many times do they have to be shown?

Psalm 78:34 tells us that the Israelites continued in their rebellion, but "whenever God slew them, they would seek him; they eagerly turned to him again.”

Although it is easy to think we could never be that blind, how many times do we have to be shown how destructive sin is before we turn away from it? When our lives are not what we know they should be, do we stop and seek after God? Don’t wait until you’re at rock bottom. Read God's word and do what He says.

Reflect:

  • Are there any sins you keep returning to? Repent and seek God's incredible forgiveness.
  • How often do you let what you read in the Bible change your actions? What has God told you to do that you can start today?
