God's Post-It Note

Read: 2 Peter 1:1-21

Don’t we all need reminders? Receptionists hand out appointment cards. Our calendars come pre-labeled with holidays. Facebook reminds us of our friends’ birthdays. And it’s quite common to find a Post-It note (or 10) randomly placed in my house with some kind of message to my future self.

Sometimes we even need reminders to stay the course in our walk with Christ. Early Christians needed this reminder, and it serves the same purpose for us today. Peter urges us to pursue goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, kindness and love. Our nature struggles against all of these. Our natural tendency is to pursue our own selfish desires.

I love how our God knows us so well. Through Peter, God sends a Post-It note to us centuries later. We all need constant reminders to pursue a relationship with God and to strive to be more like Christ. In 2 Peter 1:15, Peter writes, “And I will make every effort to see that after my departure you will always be able to remember these things.” Thank you for the reminder, Peter!
