Read: Job 1-2 & Job 13:15-16 & Matthew 12:22-34
I have never lost everything I have, but I have felt lost.
There are times when we all feel like we are facing life alone. Reading through Job, we see things in Job’s life ripped away one at a time. Yet there is an underlying thread. God saw Job’s heart, and God knew Job loved and trusted Him above all else. In chapter 13 Job says, “Though he slay me, yet will I hope in Him ... indeed, this will turn out for my deliverance.”
Again and again, Satan insists that, if he can take just one more thing, Job will curse God. But through dire circumstances, great pain and bad advice, Job remains faithful. God calls him blameless and upright, a man who feared God and shunned evil. See, Job also knew there was an underlying thread. He understood that God is sovereign. We can accept whatever comes when we trust God with our whole hearts and put our faith in who He says He is. After the loss of his family, his home and his possessions, Job praised God, saying: “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away…”
Do we really believe and trust that God knows what He is doing with us?
Not long ago, I woke up to the welcoming kisses of my two canine children. At that moment, I remembered how lonely I was when my sons moved out, leaving me with a very empty nest. It was a hard adjustment, but God saw my lonliness and through a concerned friend bought these two pups into my life. I was overwhelmed with gratitude for how much God cares for me and tends to the details of my life.
God is gracious and has blessed us with so much, but let us always remember the greatest gift is God Himself. After all else fails and fades away, He remains faithful.
