Giving or Getting?

Read: Proverbs 21:25-26

It seems we’re rarely satisfied with what we have. If you have straight hair, you probably wish it were curly. You love your clothes until you get on Pinterest. The guy at work has a new gadget and now you want one. (“It would make your life so much easier!”) If you have an old car, you probably wish you had a new one. You want a bigger house because you’re tired of the one that you’re living in now. We want more and more, but are we giving more?

Proverbs 21:26 shows us that “All day long he craves for more, but the righteous give without sparing.” The word that stands out in this verse is “craves.” Often, we literally crave what others have. But while it would be so nice to get that shiny new car, in just a few years that new car becomes an old car.

Why not focus on the gifts right in front of you? Want the things that you have instead of dreaming of or “craving” the things you don’t have? The only thing we should crave more of is Jesus. Jesus desires for us to be more giving people, not more getting people. Be thankful for the blessings in your life today.
