Get Organized

Read: Mark 1:35 & Luke 5:16

The start of spring, a new year, or a birthday are good times to commit to a fresh start, an untarnished ledger, a briskly cleaned slate. They are times of cleaning out the things that hinder and pulling up those things tossed aside to bring them back into use and rotation. It is a time for reorganization.

I’m not just talking about household cleaning and upkeep here, nor am I singly focusing on work productivity and steps toward financial freedom (though all of these are vital and do have their place). The highest amount of disorganization over the last year, for many of us, occurred in our walks with God.

How many times have you set out to get up before dawn and have uninterrupted time with Him? (How many of us have let go of that commitment in just a few weeks?) How many of us have sought to recommit to a home group or accountability relationship, only to let busyness set that by the wayside as summer ushers itself in?

Mark 1:35 says that “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.” Again, in Luke 5:16 we’re shown that, “Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.” It was at the very top on Jesus’ priority list—and He is God’s own Son! Should it not be at the top of our daily to-do list, as well? It’s time to reorganize!
