Freed from Anguish

Read: Psalm 25:16-22

Have you ever let words escape your mouth that would have been better left unsaid? For me, it’s not the words spoken during a moment of aggravation that I regret most. Instead, it’s the words shared during a typical conversation that were never intended to be hurtful, but may have been received as discouraging. These are the words that cause me the most guilt, pain and sleepless nights.

During these nights, I call out to God for forgiveness and I pray for an answer to make the situation right. My words haunt me, and there seems to be no relief. In Psalm 25:17-18, David expresses similar pain and guilt: “The troubles of my heart have multiplied; free me from my anguish. Look upon my affliction and my distress and take away all my sins.”

It is clear from verse 15 that only God can remove the guilt and heal the pain that David is experiencing, “My eyes are ever on the Lord, for only He will release my feet from the snare.” God will forgive us of our sins. Only He can lift the burdened spirit. His amazing grace and mercy are magnificent. Are you needlessly wrestling with an issue that should be turned over to God?
