In school one time, we were given what appeared to be a simple math test. Almost everyone in the class finished it in no time and proudly sat marveling at how easy it had been. The teacher then asked us if anyone had read the instructions. Only one person had. The instructions had said to subtract whenever there was an addition sign and to add whenever there was a subtraction sign.
Fortunately, the commandments the Lord gave us are not so tricky. But before we can expect to excel, we need to humble ourselves to be open to accepting instruction. Proverbs 15:33 says, “Wisdom’s instruction is to fear the Lord, and humility comes before honor.”
Ask God to teach us, give us understanding, and direct us regarding His commands as in Psalm 119:33-35. For it is by keeping His laws we show Jesus our love (John 14:15).
