Faith is at the core of the Christian life. The Bible says we cannot please God if we don’t have faith. Anything we do that does not proceed from faith is sin. And, faith divorced from works is no faith at all. Faith in the one true God and living life according to our faith in Him is no small matter. It makes or breaks us.
True faith pleases God. It is alive; it is active. It changes people and situations. Faith is a gift. And faith is risky. Because it does not depend on us; it is not within our control. That is, our faith does not begin and end with us. It is not from us, through us, or in us; but faith is from God, through God and in God alone. Our faith is not in the “things” of God, but it is in God. We believe God will do what He says He is going to do. Even if He uses us as instruments to accomplish something, we are mere vessels for His use. And so the pressure is off of us to perform, because we cannot do what only God can do. We must be obedient to His direction, but the power to accomplish the task is still in Him.
No matter what we’re facing right now, it is God who initiated the good work He started in us, and He is faithful to complete it (Philippians 1:6). Let us put our faith completely in Him through Jesus Christ. “[T]here is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).
