I end up eating a lot of fast food because it’s quick, easy and tastes good. Although it’s convenient and good at the time, it isn’t what my body really wants or needs. Fast food can’t fully satisfy. Inevitably, I end up getting hungry quickly because my body needs nutrients from good food. It might involve more effort to go to the grocery store, but only the good food can really satisfy me.
In the same way, God wants us to experience the satisfaction that comes from His best. Psalm 147 tells us that God gives His people the finest wheat. Notice that it doesn’t say the most convenient. Everything God offers us through a relationship with Him is the very best. The problem is we’re willing to settle for less. Our plans may produce pleasure, but God created us for joy. Joy is much stronger, and it endures in a way that pleasures can’t. Although it may be easier to seek pleasure outside of God, God designed us so that His plans would be the only thing that could really satisfy all of our desires.
Take time to examine your life and ask yourself where you are settling for less than God’s finest.
