Consider the circumstances of the woman at the funeral in Luke 7: She had already lost her husband, and now her only son was gone. Her despair must have been excruciating. However, that’s not the end of the story. Jesus crashes this funeral and ends it on the spot. The pain of having lost a son is transformed into the joy of seeing him brought back in the most miraculous and dramatic way possible.
Can you imagine how many times the woman and her family probably re-told that story? If those mourners had cell phones and social media, this man’s revival would have been the trending story of the day. Jesus has a knack for bringing dead people to life, and when He starts working, people start talking.
In this story, Jesus brought the woman’s son back from a physical death, but His ability to bring life to us spiritually is no less miraculous. When someone goes from spiritual death to spiritual life, people notice and they start talking. When we let God work through us, Jesus becomes famous and eternities are changed.
