A Place Where You Fit

Read: Ephesians 2:17-22

In Ephesians 2:19, Paul writes that through Christ “you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household.” Paul was saying when we accept Christ as our loving and peace-giving savior, we are made part of a family that is only built up more and more through Christ. We finally have a place to fit in and a support group that won’t abandon us.

When life gets rough we often find ourselves feeling there’s no one in our corner. We know we can’t do life alone, but feel like we often do. Through Christ, we don’t have to do life alone. Instead, we are built together as the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 2:22). God created the church for community. Like a chord grows stronger with each strand, the church grows stronger as we build each other up on the foundation of Christ.

Next time you feel lonely or feel like you don’t fit in, remember that God loves you so much He created you to be the dwelling place of His Holy Spirit. “You yourselves are God’s temple” (1 Corinthians 3:16). With the Holy Spirit living inside you and your church family to support you, you will never be alone.

Reflect:

  • What are some ways you can build others up on the foundation of Christ?
  • What are some ways your family in Christ has built you up?
  • Does the Holy Spirit live inside you? If not, take a moment to ask Jesus into your life.
