The Result of Prayer

Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6–7, NRSV

We are people with choice. We can choose to accept Christ or to reject Him. We can believe or mistrust. And we can worry—or we can pray.

The result of prayer is peace. It is the knowledge that our heavenly Father, the One Who created the world and everything in it, is in charge. Worry, care and fretfulness are not useful to Him. He doesn’t need our help to make things run smoothly, only our trust and our permission.

By choosing to trust God and lay our worry aside, we are freed from anxiety and concern. Who better than the Creator is there to direct our steps? With Him in charge, we can spend our time in praise and thanksgiving instead of apprehension and unease. We can sleep at night knowing that He is awake and watching over us. He is on guard twenty-four hours a day directing not only our steps, but also those of everyone around us.

FAITH STEP: It is time to give up worrying and embrace the peace Jesus offers us. No longer start the morning by lying in bed concerned about the day ahead. Instead praise God and thank Him for being in charge of your waking hours.
