Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. Matthew 28:19-20
Infants don’t have a sense of caring for others. Their primary focus is getting someone else to meet their needs. But infants aren’t the only ones with this selfish focus.
Sadly, many of us can get so wrapped up in our own needs that we don’t take the time to see the needs of people around us. But Christ tells us to do just that, to look for the needs of those around us and to do all we can to meet those needs.
Something supernatural happens when we do that. Not only can we connect with them in a way that allows them to feel God’s love, we also create the perfect situation to engage them in a conversation about Jesus. Meeting their needs allows us the opportunity to share our story with them.
Sharing Christ is all about building relationships and connections with people; it’s all about sharing the love of Christ that moves through you and to them. It’s not about pounding people over the head with a bunch of Bible verses and commandments.
So when it comes to following Christ’s command to “Go,” remember that it’s about communicating the saving grace of Jesus Christ. And you do this best when you look out for the needs of others, do what you can to meet those needs, and then simply share what God has done in your life.
Prayer:
Lord, help me to be more sensitive to the needs of others. I want to build relationships and connect with others for your glory. Give me the courage I need to share your gospel with others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
