“Show proper respect to everyone…” 1 Peter 2:17
THINK
We will never agree with everyone we meet. However, having an opposing viewpoint is never a reason for hateful actions or attitudes. Jesus Christ was the most polarizing personality ever. Yet, even in the most difficult situations, He found ways to maintain a level of respect.
When you find yourself in a situation where you have to say, “This is what God’s word says, and I’m not backing down,” use that opportunity to show respect to everyone. Use it as a chance to build bridges of connection while at the same time drawing lines of truth.
PRAY
Ask God for opportunities to build bridges to those who have different viewpoints than you. When He does, ask Him for the strength to draw lines and stand respectfully for the truth.
ACT
Read Acts 4:1-22 as an example of standing up for the truth, yet doing it respectfully.
