Psalms 27:1
The Lord is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life— whom shall I be afraid?
As a mom, we want to protect our children— always. Protect them from harm— whether from another person or from themselves. Our children learn to depend on us for protection, which can be a good thing and a bad thing. It is good that they learn to trust us and they know we are a safe haven for them. But, we cannot always protect them and we are not always around to shield them throughout the day. We can, however, teach them that God is always there for them. With God on their side, they have nothing to fear in life. What a powerful thought: our children will grow up and realize they do not have to go through this world alone, but they have a Savior who will be their defender.
Can you imagine how this truth will bring confidence into your child’s life? Your child can learn to trust and depend on God at an early age. Your child can learn to talk to God, not only in times of need, but also throughout their day as a companion. With God on your child’s side, there is nothing for them to fear. Teach your child how to cry out to God in the night when they are scared. Model to your child, throughout your day, what that looks like and talk about how to incorporate God into everyday activities. We all have a huge defender on our side, and that is God. God will protect us and we shall live a victorious life and not be afraid.
Prayer
Father, You are my salvation and my defender. With You by my side, I don’t have to fear or be afraid. I pray that I will be able to teach this truth to my children and they will grow in their faith with You. God, please meet them where they are, as You do with me.
