Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. (Matthew 5:9)
As Jesus spoke, Galilee stretched out from the hillside like a pit full of Rottweilers, all snarling at one another. Nobody liked, trusted, or got along with anyone else. Anyone suggesting peacemakers would be blessed sounded like they were from another planet—or kingdom. And Jesus was. He brought the values of the Kingdom of Heaven into the fallen kingdoms of the world. Conflict-stirrers were the admired, hair-triggers were the expected, but Jesus says peacemakers will be called the children of God.
