Owned

Description

The Bible teaches us that if we are Christians, we are not our own any longer—we belong to Jesus.

I Corinthians 6:19

You are not your own; you were bought at a price.

So many times, we get caught up in our rights.  We demand the right to be heard, the right to be right, the right to our way, the right to be respected, etc.  The list goes on and on, but the Bible teaches us that if we are Christians, we do not have rights. We are not our own any longer—we belong to Jesus.  We have been bought and paid for by Jesus and His shed blood on the cross.

Our human nature resists this type of total surrender.  We argue that “I must stand up for myself, I cannot lose my voice.”  But, in God’s economy, it is better to lose your voice and gain His voice.  It is better to submit my will to His will, only then will I find true happiness and experience joy to the fullest in my life.  We are not giving up our rights, just exchanging them for God’s plan for our lives.  You will never go wrong following God’s ways.  His way is always better.

Prayer

Father, I need to remember that I was bought at a price.  I need to remember that it is no longer I that live, but You that live in me.  Jesus, as I go about my day today, gently remind me over and over again, that I was bought at a price, that You want the best for me, better than I could ever accomplish on my own.  When my selfish pride rears it’s ugly head, help me to recognize it and to stamp it out quickly.  Open my eyes Lord, to Your ways. Teach me—I am willing to learn.
