Give me only my daily bread. Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you, and say, “ Who is the Lord?” Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God. Proverbs 30:8-9
Relying on God for your daily bread keeps me dependent upon Him, and that is where I need to be. I should be dependent on God for my finances, material things, my wisdom, my knowledge of how to parent my children, and for my love toward my husband and my children. I need to be dependent on God with everything in my life.
God knows my human nature. He knows that the more I have, the less I will look to him to meet my needs. That is the reason God only gave the Israelites manna one day at a time—to keep them dependent on Him. Don’t look too far into the future. Instead, keep your eyes focused on the here and now and God’s provision. God will take care of your future. Trust in Him.
Thank you for my daily bread. I pray that I would rely on you for all things. I ask that you would teach me how to become less independent and more reliant on you.
