Running, kicking, squealing with laughter, dozens of girls recently took to the soccer pitch at Azraq refugee camp in Jordan.
Ten-year-old Zaynab was exhuberant.
“Today was my first time playing football,” she says. “I was goal keeper, and I loved it! I made new friends today. I will come and play every day.”
The practice session that Zaynab participated in proved the mettle of the newly trained volunteer coaches who instructed and encouraged the girls.
Coaches include Syrian refugee volunteers and staff members of the Jordan Football Association, World Vision, and other humanitarian organizations that work in the camp.
