Son, you must realize how much I desire your total trust in me. Many of my sons and daughters try to create fortresses that will insulate them from calamity in life. But you must know, and let my sons and daughters know, there is only one place that is secure in this life. That place is in me. My son David made a grave error when he decided to number his troops for the purpose of placing his trust in those numbers. He knew it was against my law, but he still did it. I was forced to bring judgment on him and many people lost their lives because of his decision. Likewise today, my sons and daughters often trust in their own resources. They build bank accounts in hopes they will be protected from misfortune. They stay in relationships or jobs to avoid hardship. What my son Solomon said still holds true: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. Acknowledge me in all your ways and I will direct your steps" (Prov 3:5-6). This is what you can trust in. This alone is your place of security, because I am a Father who cares for his children.
And God was displeased with this thing; therefore He struck Israel. So David said to God, “I have sinned greatly, because I have done this thing; but now, I pray, take away the iniquity of Your servant, for I have done very foolishly.” 1 Chronicles 21:7-8
