Who doesn't love children’s art made from handprints? There’s the plaster handprint painted gold (with yarn attached for hanging); the fingerprint characters (remember Thumbody?); and, of course, the ever-famous turkey handprint! Handprints are such a vivid picture of an amazing God who creates each of us so uniquely. Not only did He make us with His hands, but His hands stay upon us—and He uses our hands to touch others with His love.
I saw the coolest set of handprints last Sunday. A young woman was being baptized. When she came up out of the water, she spontaneously hugged the minister who had played an important role in her faith journey. As they turned to walk out of the baptistry, you could see her wet handprints on the back of his t-shirt, and his wet handprints on the back of hers. Through my eyes, both sets of handprints looked like they were from God.
The scenario led me to ask myself the question: If I’m a leader, where am I leaving handprints? And not just handprints, but handprints that represent God’s hands? I’m rather certain that if He has called me to serve Him, then somewhere there ought to be handprints.
Never walk away from someone who deserves help; your hand is God’s hand for that person (Prov. 3:27a, The Message).
