Do You Want to Control Life or Just Live It

Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the LORD's purpose that prevails (Prov 19:21)

The last Myers Briggs preference-set is how you like to live in the world. If you like to live in a very orderly, scheduled way, and make decisions and move on, you might be a “J” (judging preference). If you like to live in a more spontaneous way, seeking to enjoy life rather than control it, you may be a “P” (perceiving).

Of course as leaders we want to ensure that our business is organized and scheduled where necessary; however, if we over-use that strength, we will be trying to control everything. We might micro-manage and drive our direct reports crazy, especially if he/she is a “P." If you over-use your “P” strength you might be perceived as scattered or a fence-sitter, and people may have difficulty understanding your vision and where you are taking them.

How do you tend to go through life?  I am a strong “J” and I didn’t just have check lists for events, but I did a full project plan for our daughter’s wedding --not a bad thing, as long as she had lots of input and I was open when she introduced new ideas and wanted to change the plan. I’m happy to report it went very well.

If you’ve been following along, you know that one is not good or bad. Both approaches to life are who God created you uniquely to be. Just don’t over do it!  And most importantly, remember, God is in control!
