Many of us are massive piles of excuses. Many can justify anything and excuse themselves from everything. Deep within themselves they keep the truth of who they are hidden, and the decisions they have made about life very well hidden.
14 For when Gentiles who do not have the Law do instinctively the things of the Law, these, not having the Law, are a law to themselves,
15 in that they show the work of the Law written in their hearts, their conscience bearing witness, and their thoughts alternately accusing or else defending them,
16 on the day when, according to my Gospel, God will judge the secrets of men through Christ Jesus. (Rom 2:14-16)
At the Great White Throne of Judgment of the unsaved dead, Jesus will evaluate what unsaved people have done and the secrets of their hearts. In Revelation 20:11-15 we are told that the scrolls of a person's life or the details of their life story will be examined at this judgment. In Romans 2 we are told that the secrets hidden deep within their souls will be brought to the surface so as to be clearly seen. All of this will be done before the face of Jesus who died for everyone and who will be evaluating everyone. That is why it is so important to believe the Gospel so as to avoid such a searching evaluation of our own lives.
