Worship is an attitude and also priestly acts. You can see this distinction easily in the first five books of the Old Testament. All of the people can worship but only some of the people could function as priests. Priests venture into the presence of God, do service for God, are acceptable to God, and represent God to the people. As these verses in Exodus make it plain, all the people could worship.
When all the people saw the pillar of cloud standing at the entrance of the tent, all the people would arise and worship, each at the entrance of his tent.
(Exodus 33:10)
Normally in the Old Testament when people worshiped it first said that they bowed down and then they worshiped. The bowing down proceeded worship. The bowing down represented the bowing down of the heart with respect. But worship itself was a recognition of dependency upon God and was a focused delight upon who he is. I can delight in ice cream, but that's not worship. Worship is when I delight and I submit myself to the expectations of God and the person of God with whom I am delighted.
