The Father is central to spiritual development. It is very important to realize that He is the focal person of the Trinity. We can see this for example in the Lord's prayer where Christ taught his disciples to pray to God the Father (Matthew 6:9). Jesus Christ taught in the gospel of John the centrality of the Father in prayer. He said, "Until now you have asked for nothing in my name: ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be made full (John 16:24)." In the context, He was speaking of praying to the Father concerning our needs. Because He knew the Father greatly loved Him, He told his disciples to pray in His name. Name refers to the character, works, and reputation of the person.
So notice very carefully that the Father wants to hear from us, and we are given a firm foundation to do so because of what Christ has done. You have a Father in heaven who wants to listen to you. He has taken us very seriously by preparing a way of talking to Him that involves His Son, His heart. We then should share our hearts with Him!
