We are so united to Christ that the great events of Christ's life are also counted to be our own. As we are identified with him, he also is identified with us. This we can see in Ephesians 2:4-7.
But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places, in Christ Jesus.
God took us from being spiritual corpses in Adam and made us spiritually alive in Christ. Not only are we identified with Christ, but he also is identified with us because verse 5 states we are made alive together with him. Since part of the history of Jesus Christ is that he was raised to be seated at the right hand of God the Father in heaven, we too are seated there with him. Our real history before God is the central events of Christ’s life. We may be preoccupied with those things we have done wrong in our lives, our sins, but God the Father is preoccupied with our union with his son. So much so he has granted freely to us a participation in the great events of Christ life.
