The point of everything is to be loved by God. The bulls-eye at the center of the Book of Romans is God’s love! In the very center of the Book of Romans, at the end of chapter eight, Paul the Apostle gave the driving force of Christianity. Three times he mentioned the word love.
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. Nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord (Rom 8:35, 37, 39).
In verse 35, he mentioned the never-abandoning love of Christ. In verse 37, we completely conquer through Christ’s love. And in verse 39, again he underscored the never-abandoning love of God in Christ Jesus. What does being in Christ ultimately mean? It means to be loved passionately and it means to be loved permanently, and it also means to be a conqueror: a conqueror of sin, condemnation, the world, the Law, the devil; we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
