Guilt does not draw us to God of the Bible. Divine kindness should attract us to him: his kindness and love as illustrated on the cross. Who else but a wonderfully kind Son of God would die for the likes of us?
4 Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance?
5 But because of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for yourself in the day of the wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God,
6 who will render to every man according to his deeds: (Rom 2:4-6)
When people do not respond to God's kindness, they will eventually face the righteous judgment of God. This judgment is based on their deeds whether they have responded to the Gospel or not. We must not forget the greatest deed we can do is trust in Jesus Christ and to live by the fruit of the Spirit so as to love God and others. Accepting God's kindness gives us the ability to do that. Wonderfully God converts by kindness and generosity, not by intimidation and force. When non-Christians reject kindness, they really have condemned themselves. For anyone who does not want to receive kindness can only wait for judgment. Not because of their sins but because they have trampled on kindness.
