In the World and In Christ

Pete’s passion was politics. He was a Bible-believing Christian who was consumed by conservative politics. When he drove anywhere, the political talk shows were on. When he talked, everyone could tell what he was passionate about. Emotionally, mentally and relationally, he dripped politics.

Pete’s Christian priorities were misplaced. His emotions should have been glued to the cross. Paul said it this way:

But may it never be that I should boast, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. For neither is circumcision anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation (Gal 6:14-15)

We belong to the new world of Christ and not to this one. Our first priority should not be American politics (even though they are important), but to the place of the Christian church in this world and what Christ has done on the cross. The nations of this world are but dust on the scales of time, but the death of God on the cross towers over time and the nations of this world.

What are your emotions glued to: Jesus or politics? Elections should be like Velcro, on and off, but dedication to Christ should be Super Glue.
