Our future has already happened! Our future resurrection is directly linked to Christ because we are in union with him. As he is so we shall be. He was raised from the dead and so we shall be too.
But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep. For since by a man came death, by a man also came the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all shall be made alive. But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, after that those who are Christ's at His coming (1Cor 15:20-23).
In the Old Testament the fruits of the harvest in Israel were to be taken to the temple and be offered to God. The first fruits always spoke of the harvest that was certain to follow. This pattern of offering the first fruits to God was what Christ followed. He went to Heaven as the first fruits to present himself to God the Father. Now he awaits the word from God the Father to come and bring the rest of the harvest home, the harvest of those who have believed in the Son. Adam brought the harvest of death to all of humanity and Christ will bring the harvest of the resurrection to believing humanity!
