The Holy Spirit changes the disposition within. As we focus on God the Father through the provision of Jesus Christ the Holy Spirit is available to influence our lives. We can organize our lives around what he provides, and we can respond to his promptings, and the result will be a profound change within our inner character. We will find our emotional life deeply changed. Paul described this change as the fruit of the Spirit.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law—(Gal 5:22-23).
The Spirit is like a gardener and we are the trees. The fruit are the characteristics of Jesus Christ. Fruit does not come as result of intensive labor but healthy growth. Our responsibility is to abide in what God has provided and over time we will be greatly surprised by the changes that come within our soul. These changes do not come through labor but through a living relationship with God the Father through Christ.
