What is discipleship?
As we have previously stated, it is a vital relationship with God as our Father. It is also a confident relationship in what Jesus Christ has done for us. As Galatians 2:6-7 says,"Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, having been firmly rooted and now being built up in him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude." True discipleship is an ever growing confidence in Jesus Christ. What has saved us is faith in Jesus Christ, but that faith has to be exercised daily in what Christ has done on the cross for us in taking away our guilt and placing us in a guilt-free environment before God.
Secondly, we have to place our faith in what Christ is doing for us in Heaven as an Older Brother who protects us, as a High Priest who keeps us secure forever through His relationship with the Father, and through His intercession on our behalf. So discipleship is a daily relationship to God as our Dad and a reliance upon what Jesus Christ has provided for us. Discipleship is nothing more than that. We can add much information and much activity to our Christian life, but without these two essentials, neither activity nor information will change our hearts.
