Part of Paul the apostle's prayer in Ephesians 3 is that the hearts of believers should become a comfortable home for Christ. Paul prayed that we should be strengthened by the power of the Holy Spirit so that Christ might dwell in our hearts through faith. The Greek word for dwell means to dwell comfortably. Every Christian has the indwelling Christ but not every Christian is a comfortable home for Christ.
16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man;
17 so that Christ may comfortably dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, after being rooted and grounded in love—(3:16-17).
Two things have to happen for Christ to have a comfortable home in our hearts. The first is that we should have a deep sense of the love that he has for us. It should be an emotional and instinctive sense of love. Then, we should also be exercising faith in God the Father, the Word of God, and Jesus Christ. As we do that we will participate in the emotional life of heaven and Christ will enjoy being present within us.
