Christians have freedom. They have freedom from the law and freedom from sin but not freedom from the expectations of God. God's expectation is that we should live through the power of the Holy Spirit to please him. Freedom is not a blank check. Freedom is to be free from the rules of the law and the immense freedom to conform our lives to Christ and to love as he loved. Paul described that in Galatians 5.
13 For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.
14 For the whole Law is fulfilled in one word, in the statement, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself"—(Gal 5:13-14).
The purpose of the law was to show what a healthy life looks like. It was incapable of producing that life. Rules could only produce death because they never contained a life source. The gospel contains a life source in the person of the Holy Spirit. He frees us from sin and grants us the ability to respond deeply within to the expectations of God. We are free to live a healthy life.
