We have to be careful that the anxieties and the preoccupations of this world so occupy our hearts that we lose our peace. Jesus said in the parable of the sower, we need to be careful as we listen to the word of God that it is not pushed out of our hearts. The Christians birthright is peace, peace with God and emotionally rich tranquility in our hearts. When we learn to have the fruit of the Spirit including peace in our hearts, we can continually grow in the truth. Notice what Jesus said in the parable.
22 "And the one on whom seed was sown among the thorns, this is the man who hears the word, and the worry of the world, and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful. (Matthew 13:22)
Jesus pointed out the threat of the deceitfulness of riches. Money creates the illusion of security and so the heart has a temporary peace but it is the temporary peace that the world gives. Jesus said at the end of the Sermon on the Mount that into every life storms will come. Peace will be challenged. But if we have a firm foundation through integrating the truth of God into our hearts, we will have a peace that is not based on the stock market or on the politics of this planet, but that is based on the peace from the Spirit of God.
