God the Father wants His children to be confident in His love. He has done some very practical things to win our heart’s confidence. He gave His own Son on the cross for our sins as an infinite payment for our wrongdoing. The more we realize how deeply He loves His own Son, the more we will relax in His love. If we recognize that it is Deity who is dying for us on the cross, every day will go better for us.
Not only has the Father given his Son for us, He has also given the Holy Spirit for us. Two members of the Trinity have been given by the Father on our behalf. Ephesians 1:13 says, "In him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation – having also believed, you were sealed in him with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God's own possession, to the praise of his glory." Notice that after believing we were sealed. We believed and we were given the Holy Spirit forever. The Holy Spirit was given as a down payment or pledge to us. In the Greek world, the word pledge means a permanent down payment that cannot be taken back. The Holy Spirit is such a payment to us. Why does the Father do this? He knows that we are fearful so He has done the incredible. He has given what is ultimately absolutely valuable to Him, the Holy Spirit and the Son, as a means of securing our salvation and giving us confidence forever.
